Fort Delaware, DE, August-December 1864
Fort Delaware was a Union facility for Confederate prisoners, on tiny Pea Patch Island between Delaware and New Jersey.
Captain J.B. Hubbard of the 48th Alabama Infantry. Autograph Letter Signed to Susan Taylor of Newport, KY. "I would like you to send me a small am't of money as I am in very great need. . . . I am aware that you have done a great deal for prisoners & I would not trouble you if I knew anyone else to whom I could apply." 30 December 1864.
J.E. Kittle. Autograph Letter Signed to William L. Cruikshanks. "My good friend, I am needing a little assistance in the way of money or tobacco. Either will ans my necessities. We are permitted to receive both." 9 December 1864.
Joseph Henry Buck (1846-1917) of Stoneham, MA, private in the famed 6th Massachusetts Militia, then doing guard duty at Fort Delaware. Autograph Letter Signed to his younger brother John C. Buck. 28 August 1864.
